Barrister Yasser Latif Hamdani is a lawyer and author of international repute. As a lawyer, Mr. Hamdani has been engaged in constitutional and public interest litigation around constitutional fundamental rights, including the YouTube case where the Pakistan government’s decision to block YouTube in Pakistan was challenged on grounds of the right to freedom of expression and speech.
Mr. Hamdani’s has been part of the Harvard Law School’s Human Rights Program to focus on right to religious freedom under Pakistani constitution and the marginalization of Pakistan’s Ahmadi community under law.
“As a Pakistani, I would like to see my country develop into a healthy democracy and for that media freedom is sine qua non and an irreducible minimum. This makes media freedom important to me. It is the media that can act as a check on excesses and arbitrary actions on part of the government along with the judiciary of course”.

Mr. Hamdani has authored a well-acclaimed book, Jinnah: A Life, on Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan
Jinnah made the colonial government set aside more funds for education. That part of the book contains a lesson for current Pakistani leaders. Education figures nowhere on their list of priorities.
Mr. Hamdani has a BA from Rutgers University in New Jersey, an LLB from University of Punjab and an LLM from University of Management and Technology in Lahore, Pakistan.
